It's a shame that after Pink Floyd many people decided to give up on the genious of Roger Waters. He may not have released a lot of post Floyd albums, but each and every one of them are their own little masterpieces (and every bit as good as many Floyd albums). However, in my opinion, the cream of the crop is 1992's 'Amused To Death', which from start to finish is an incredible work of art. The downfall of the album is that Roger may not be singing as great as he could be. If you think I'm nuts compare "Perfect Sense" to the live version and you'll see what I mean. That does not mean that he doesn't sound great. Musically and lyrically it is easy to see why he was the mastermind behind Pink Floyd. If you compare this album to anything from Gilmour it is obvious that Waters was a huge part of PF. There are so many great songs on this album I would be hard pressed to pick any favorites (although the afformentioned "Perfect Sense" still gives me goosebumps). The one two punch that closes out the album "It's A Miracle" and "Amused To Death" send this album out in an incredible fashion. Roger has not released a solo rock album since this release (though he did write an opera record 'Ca Ira' that is definitely worth a play or two), and even if he never records another rock album, this along with 'Pros And Cons', & 'Radio KAOS' are more than enough proof of the genious that is Roger Waters. |
